Why Kevin Strootman is a MUST for Manchester United

Why Kevin Strootman is a MUST for Manchester United?

Ask any United fan who they want bringing into the Squad this Summer and nine times out of ten they will reply with the name of a centre midfielder, someone to partner Michael Carrick. The reasoning for this is simple, with Paul Scholes' retirement, Darren Fletcher's illness and speculation arising about Anderson's future at the Club, United are severely short staffed in the centre of the park.

This leaves United with just two Central Midfielders capable of playing regular first team Football next season, the ever brilliant Michael Carrick and fellow England International Tom Cleverley.
United fans will also tell you that we have relied on Carrick for too long and that Anderson's on off involvement in the First Team is preventing young Nick Powell's progression.

This Window is likely to see United finally sign an established Centre Midfielder. Who that Midfielder should be splits opinions between fans into 3-4 contenders. The popular choices being Victor Wanyama of Celtic, Yohan Cabaye of Newcastle and Morgan Schneiderlin from Southampton. The final popular choice being the man I believe HAS to be wearing the red of United next Season, 23 year old Dutch International, Kevin Strootman of PSV Eindhoven.

At just 23 years old, Strootman has made 18 appearances for his Country, and 56 for PSV, who currently sit second in the Dutch Eredivise. This shows relative experience, and being picked regularly for a National Team as strong as Holland of late shows that there's talent in the boy.
He also seems impressive linking up with United top scorer Robin van Persie when playing for Holland, this relationship could improve at Club Level and Strootman is often picked as Captain of his Country, therefore he's a leader, a type of Player United have craved ever since the loss of Roy Keane.

Strootman is a ball winning, complete Midfielder, full of creativity and energy, who can get forward and pick a pass. He's pretty similar to United Midfielder Michael Carrick, a younger version, a Carrick 2.0 if you like.

The Transfer would be a smart one, bringing in a Player of relative experience but, at the young age of 23 it allows stability and is a long term investment. Strootman has been linked with United for a while now, there have also been links with Arsenal and new United Manager David Moyes monitored the Dutch International during his time at Everton. Strootman has vaguely spoken of United and Eindhoven boss Dick Advocaat has been recently quoted saying that Manchester United would be a "good move" for Kevin Strootman.

Everything about Strootman and a move to Manchester seems to add up, he seems the perfect Player United need to cement their Midfield and prevent big games from being lost due to our Midfield being overrun. He seems keen on the idea of United, as does his Manager and United's new Boss.

Who exactly United should sign in the Midfield will split opinions, there's no doubt about that. Some people may agree, others may completely disagree on the basis that he is too similar to United's Michael Carrick, opinions will be opinions. A deal for Kevin Strootman would look to be around the £15-£20 million pound area, a reasonable price for a promising and fairly young Centre Midfielder of that experience.

All this in hand, is why I believe Kevin Strootman is the ideal candidate to solve Manchester United's Midfield worries. We all love a Dutchman, right?
